Life in Lancaster City

Best kept secret” may feel like a stretch for a city consistently ranked among the top 3 of America’s Best Places to Retire, according to US News & World Report. But it’s true. Despite all the accolades, Lancaster City has proudly retained its friendly, small city livability — a surprising backdrop for an arts and culture scene that rivals our big city neighbors. Mosaic’s central location is also just minutes from the four-season beauty of wooded countryside, perfect for idyllic bike rides and visits to roadside farm stands. All the more reason our campuses attract residents from 40 states and several countries.

Walkable City

Everything you love, everything you need

To walk this city is to love it. Mosaic is strollable to literally hundreds of restaurants, boutiques, museums, theaters, galleries and other pastimes — from baseball games to fireworks at Penn Square. But best of all, your everyday destinations are just as walkable, including markets, banks, coffee shops, medical care and green spaces like Lancaster County Central Park — your go-to spot for family get-togethers with a pool, playground and skate park.

Market District

It’s a flavorful life

Lancaster’s coveted Market District is home to two historic farmers markets still serving up a fresh food lifestyle. A three-minute walk will take you to Central Market (est. 1730), where you can pick up farm-fresh meat, cheese and produce from more than 60 local vendors. Just across the street from Mosaic, Southern Market (est. 1888) is home to a world-class food hall that celebrates emerging and established chefs — and Lancaster’s heritage of international culinary diversity.

Daytrips and other wonders

From Mosaic, New York City and Philadelphia are easily driveable. Their international airports are too, so really, the world is yours. Closer-to-home getaways include the Pocono and Catskill Mountains. The beaches of Ocean City and Cape May. And of course, our very own Lancaster County — the heart of Amish country, where rural roads invite tranquil exploration.
